From the Bargain Bin: The Movie Collectible of a Character Not In the Movie

If you have only seen the films, but never read the books, you have no idea who Tom Bombadil is. I love the idea of a collectible of a character who didn’t even make it into the first draft of the screenplay for the movie trilogy.

Both Peter Jackson’s trilogy and Ralph Bakshi’s 1978 “animated” adaptation dispensed with Bombadil entirely. This was particularly important in Jackson’s case, as he spared us an incredibly annoying Robin Williams cameo.

Limited edition of ‘Sigurd and Gudrún’ now available

Publisher HarperCollins has made available a special deluxe hardcover edition of The Legend of Sigurd and Gudrún, each signed by editor Christopher Tolkien, and limited to 500 copies worldwide. Each copy includes a facsimile page of the original manuscript. The book is hand-bound in goat-skin and features raised spine ribs and pages edged in gold.

Weta Workshop unveils new line of LOTR movie collectibles

Weta Workshop, the special effects company based in Miramar, New Zealand, has acquired a new license from Warner Bros. Consumer Products to create a new line of fine art collectibles and memorabilia based on The Lord of the Rings movie trilogy.

I used to own a pachinko machine. It was an old one from the late seventies, and was sumo-themed. Of course there was no computer and no video screen. I loved that thing. But pachinko is probably the dullest game in existence, barring baccarat. This Lord of the Rings movie pachinko machine is for sale on eBay for $160 (but shipping to US is another $90).
