  John Rhys-Davies, who portrayed Gimli son of Glóin in the Lord of the Rings film trilogy, has turned down an offer to appear in the two-part film adaptation of The Hobbit.

  “I’ve already been asked and to be honest with you, I wouldn’t [appear]. I have already completely ruled it out.”

  Bilbo Baggins seems to have used his Halfling Improved Evasion feat to dodge another threat to his feature film return. Motion picture studio Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer has, at least temporarily, staved off a bankruptcy that might have derailed plans for the two-part, Peter Jackson-produced adaptation of The Hobbit scheduled to begin production next year.

  An official announcement has confirmed the story that TheOneRing.net broke last week, that the parties in a lawsuit that could have derailed production of the upcoming The Hobbit films have reached a settlement.

  Leading Lord of the Rings movie blog TheOneRing.net is reporting that a tentative settlement has been reached in the lawsuit between the heirs of author JRR Tolkien and New Line Cinema. The suit threatened to derail production of New Line’s upcoming two part film adaptation of The Hobbit.

  Director Guillermo del Toro has confirmed, in an interview with BBC Radio 5, that Sir Ian McKellen will reprise the role of Gandalf in the upcoming two-part film version of The Hobbit. Del Toro also revealed that Hugo Weaving will return as Elrond Half-elven, and Andy Serkis will once again provide the voice and movements for the computer-generated character Gollum.

  Will the Tenth Doctor play Bilbo Baggins in The Hobbit? Multiple online and mainstream press sources, particularly the UK’s Telegraph, are speculating that Doctor Who star David Tennant has been tapped to portray a younger Bilbo Baggins in Guillermo del Toro’s two-part film adaptation of The Hobbit.

  ‘Fellowship of the Ring’ to play Radio City Music Hall with live orchestra

  On October 9th and 10th, New York City’s Radio City Music Hall will host Peter Jackson’s The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring with music performed live by a complete orchestra. Howard Shore’s entire original score will be performed live, synchronized with the film. Maestro Ludwig Wicki will lead Switzerland’s 21st Century Orchestra, the Collegiate Chorale and the Brooklyn Youth Chorus.

  Tolkien heirs vs. New Line: October trial date confirmed

  New details have come to light concerning the lawsuit by the heirs of JRR Tolkien, the late author of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, against film production company New Line Cinema. It has been confirmed that the suit will go before a jury in October, and may impact plans by New Line and Time Warner to shoot a two-part adaptation of The Hobbit, now in pre-production in New Zealand.
